The making of the Hatfield Tank Memorial

One of our largest bespoke pieces to date.  The memorial was unveiled at Hatfield House on the 14th September 2026. The video above shows some of the sometimes intense work involved in producing something as near to perfection as we can achieve.  There is a purpose built in mistake though, see if you can find it.  In keeping with tradition of craftsmen from past times. A mistake was often made on purpose to an item so perfection was not achieved as it was deemed only god could create perfection.

This memorial celebrates 110 years since the original "mother" Land-ship (the name chosen before we all new them as Tanks) was tested in high secrecy on the estate.  Churchill donated a MKI tank to the estate as a thankyou for allowing the prototype testing.  In 1969 the tank was removed as it was deteriorating and sent to Bovington museum where it was refurbished and is still on display to this day as the last remaining MKI Centipede tank

This was a very interesting project for us as the memorial could stand for the next 50 years.
